I'm considering buying a sealed bag of US Quarters straight from the mint, I figure it's a good way to get the best errors. Would you say I should go through with it or save my money for something else? I've never bought any bags, only rolls, and I thought I might have better luck if it's straight from the mint. The only problem I see is that they're 2019-2020, and I haven't seen a lot of major errors on those ones. What would you do? As always, thanks in advance. Personally I wouldn't call myself an expert. Now when you compare me to a every day person that doesn't care for coins, maybe a little bit, but my knowledge is very limited, I have a lot to learn. I can be rather stupid at times as well.
To answer your question, it might be a decent idea to be honest. I don't really search quarters, only cents. Now if you want a higher chance for you to receive older quarters, I would simply buy rolls. Things are slowly loosening back up, so you might be able to get your hands on a box of quarters. By this, I mean buy from a bank, rather than a mint.

QH72, are you talking face for the purchase? If you're saying it would be directly from the mint, I'd assume it is face value... and if so, and you can afford it, hey, what do you have to loose? Worst that can happen is you have to roll them and take them to your bank, right? I'd say go for it! And yeah, they'd be new coins, but you can still search for errors and BU examples. I don't see any draw backs. I'd do it! Good luck, let us know how it goes!

If it's over face, I'm out. Not for coins you can get from the bank for face.

Agreed, pay face, and only face. Unless you really want to.

Direct from the Mint, or first issue into circulation from a bank, won't make any difference to the coins.
Either way, the chance of finding an MS66+ equivalent specimen coin is still reasonably remote. Tiny bag marks are very much the norm. At least, with business strikes, circulation damage will not be confused with a probable minor mint errors.
If you are after pristine coins, just buy a specimen set from the Mint.
All things considered, I think it is less of a hassle, and with less cost, if you get them from the bank of issue.

My opinion. Yes, if you are looking for mispunched/clipped planchet or broadstruck, a bag of coins from the mint that hasn't gone through a coin rolling machine which would sort out the rejects, would be where'd you'd find something like that along with the odd pieces of trash that comes with any manufactured item before it's packaged. Likely this is where that struck screw turned up from. However, chances are rare for you to find one, they do have a level of quality control involved at the mint.
My opinion is you'd be better served with your time and money by hunting boxes of 2019-2020 quarters from a bank at face value and look for W mint mark quarters which will be at least $5 each if you do find a W mintmark quarter, and much easier than finding an error that made it through and into a bag. And..maybe come across one of those errors you're looking for while searching quarters at face value.
Are you looking for something particular? For the most part no error coins are gonna get you rich unless it's amazingly dramatic, most fall into a few bucks each range. Might be better off hunting Ws and selling them to fund buying the error types you want in your collection but possible you want to find and not buy also. Lol.
We all collect and hunt differently though so there is no wrong way, just saying a mint bag will cost you over face value and it's likely to not be productive unless you get lucky... but some people like the gamble of course.

The mint increased their quality control a lot, in I think 2003? so finding errors would be a long shot. I wouldn't bother. John1

Thank you all for the responses. I was originally gonna get bags from the mint, which cost more than face. I think I'm gonna pass on them, I'm mostly just trying to get the big errors that wouldn't make it into rolls at the bank. I've searched lots of rolls of uncirculated and circulated coins from the bank, and I haven't found any major varieties or errors. I'm not gonna stop hunting rolls just for that though, I'm gonna keep trying, I just thought the bags might have a better chance of big errors. I appreciate all the feedback, I'll be passing on them for now.

I love searching for error coins, and usually get circulated Or uncirculated rolls from the bank. I am not sure if I have found anything , just now posting them all for opinions. I have got some silver quarters back in pocket change and wheat pennies from bank and pocket change. I always pay with the largest bill I have and look at dollars for star notes, look at change , roll what I don't need and deposit to bank , and get rolls while I am there. There are a lot of aging people in my areA, a lot of people on drugs, probably stealing change from their grandparents , and not knowing the worth, put it back in circulation . Good luck to you. I have been searching for the last 3 years and hope One I have put back is actually worth something more than face value .
