Pulled this from a roll. I see doubling along the backside of the bust. Looks to be enlarged, and it is not MD as it is not shelf like or flat.

I haven't ruled out Die Deterioration or abrasion but I figured I would come here for the consensus. It is in a very odd spot for doubling to occur, but still possible. Opinions?

I agree, definitely not Machine Doubling. Strange.

I was letting this topic sit for awhile to see if anyone else had any ideas.

Indeed I don't think it's MD. Reminds me of the common DDRs that you find on the later LMC.

Hm...let's see what the others say.

Note the 'Y' on Liberty? See how the size is slightly reduced? Looks like a die polishing affected that area and the edges of the bust from polishing to remove clash marks. When the fields are reduced next to outline of the busy, it creates raised area around the bust, when the polisher falls into the incuse area of the bust. That is what you are seeing there.
