First off to answer Karrlot, I assume by Trend value the poster is referring to Coin World's "Trends" pricing guide. I could be wrong but that is my guess. As for my collection, I have no idea of the value. But I am very happy to say my collection started with coins passed down from my father (misc type and a nice Indian Head cent Collection) and the gene for collecting is strong in my son so he will eventually get my collection passed on to him to add to the one he has started. It's not the value, it's the fun and the good friends.

My parents( in there 70's) have kept every half dollar and dollar they have come in contact with for at least 25 years. They make a trip to see us in Florida every year for xmas. This year I am having them bring down all of their coffee cans so I can go through them and advise them on what they have. They estimate it is over $1000! I'm sure it is 95% Kennedy's and Ike's, but it could be a merry xmas.

Not sure what trend value is. This is what I found for replacement value for modern coins a few months ago. https://goccf.com/t/34744Seeking: Time to do rare coin sets Rainman

I'm not the sort of collector that sits down and is constantly recalculating the value of their collection, so I don't really know for sure. I had my collection valued for insurance purposes about 10 years and some 3,000 coins ago; I used this figure and made a semi-educated guess.

probably not a lot as I'm pretty new to collecting and only have a few slabbed and raw coins. Plus I just buy when I can and don't worry about value because I know I would be low on the totem pole compared to others!

Not much....unless you think my 3 Mercury dimes, 2 Jefferson War Nickels and 1968 half dollar are worth alot. They are all circulated so that probably doesn't help my cause. :(

I have values plugged into my collection spread sheets but I have not added them to see what the total would be. It wouldn't be a very accurate number and I really don't care what the total value adds up to. I know this....I can't live without my collecting hobby....that is the true value I assign to it....

Regardless of how much it is worth, the real value of the coins is in the collectors themselves. Also, it is great to see young numismatists still coming into the hobby. I remember in the late 70's and early 80's how we often talked about how the future of the hobby (at local coin club meetings) was in the young people. I consider this forum one of my "best finds" as there is so much to learn and so many people in here to share. I almost feel a little overwhelmed with how many people are in here that I haven't made any of you my particular favorites. On the other hand, it is so friendly and helpful in here, I haven't really found anyone that gets under my skin either. Quite unique! This is sort of a Giant Coin Club and if it takes me a couple years to pal up with some of you, that would not surprise me. I have had some very nice one on one experiences though since I have joined. I also have sold thousands of dollars worth of coins with the help of our forum Maw and Pa, Susan and Bobby, and have met them at their home. I'm still selling through them. Every Thursday nite some more get listed by Susan. She does a great job with consignments. I could not have done this as well without finding this place. Thanks all for being in here and doing what we do. Happy Holidays to you! My collection value is polled but kept anonymous. Hint ... it is not 6 figures! LOL!

Well my parents or grandparents had nothing to pass on all I will say is my kids will have one heck of a collection wish someone would have left it to me.
My problem is I am addicted to collecting coins even have to look at the change all the time. When people come in the bank when I am there and I see them dumping that big bucket of coins in the coin counting machine I feel like screaming PLEASE DON"T DO THAT LET ME LOOK AT THOSE FIRST.
Seems every time I say no more coins this is crazy I get more HELP

I only counted the coins I have actually pulled, identified, and marked with some identification, whether it be a die number or a date and grade. I didn't count the other 4,500 rolls I have in the 'hoard'. I have no idea what value that has, because I don't know what's in there yet. If I had to guess based on averages I would say the hoard doubles the value of the overall collection (which numbers about 2,500 coins) because for every one keeper I find 100 non-keepers. I really have no idea what it's all worth, but I'd estimate easily six digits.

My coins are worth to me what I paid for them. I have no idea what they would be worth to some one else and frankly I don't care. Everyone has their own budget some higher than others so its not a good indicator to use to judge your collection. Collect what you like as and when you can afford it. That's a hobby. Go into debt to get a coin then that's an obsession....

Coin collecting is a hobby for me. When I am not looking at my coins or handling them then I do wonder about their value, but more so as a curiosity rather than a driving force. However, I do look for "value" if that's the right word. Value in this case is my satisfaction. If I pay X amount for a coin it should give me some pride of ownership. Otherwise, why keep the coin? It's clutter. Like others before me here, I think my coins are worth what I paid for them. Unlike a stock, I don't think my coins "perform" and grow. Maybe they will a little bit over a long period of time as supply and demand come into play, but I'm not banking on it. So maybe the right question would be, "What is your coin collection worth to you?" To be a smarty pants, my answer would be, "Yes." -- Boris
