Then his opinion did not agree with yours, and so you point out his humanity and indicate you believe he is mistaken. I highly suspect when/if a TPG would send this back to you as being damaged that you would then point out they make errors also (VERY true - in fact I trust CCF expertise much more than the TPGs). We will always be here to freely offer our opinions - but you will have to expect those opinions we freely give will not always agree with yours! Tanman2001 Pillar of the Community United States 4407 Posts	Posted 12/13/2020 2:04 pm I think a big misunderstanding that's going on here is that post-mint damage and die damage are not the same thing. Post-Mint Damage - Damage to the coin that happens after it leaves the mint. Put a coin in a blender, run it over with your coin, hit it with a hammer; all post-mint damage. Die Damage - Damage to the working die before striking. The die may have been dropped by a mint employee or something was dropped on it. Any random large gouges or scrapes transferred from the die during striking (Nearly always raised elements on the coin) without any obvious cause is referred to as die damage. Whether or not these classify as mint errors is debatable. Personally I'd categorize it as a die event. Regardless, they are not very collectible unless the damage is unusually strong, widespread, or eye-catching. I don't think OP's example would be of particular interest to any collector. Just an interesting find. If OP finds it interesting, they should put it in a 2x2, label it what it is (Die Damage), and keep it in their collection. It's not worth sending out for authentication and not worth fretting over for this long. Unfortunately it is not the rare dropped letter they hoped it was, and it is not worth as much as they thought. But it's still an interesting coin and it started a good learning experience for many. If I just always took anyone and everyone's word that a doubled die is a doubled die and didnt ask how and why they happen and what the differences are between dd's and med., etc. I wouldnt learn anything. Sorry a lot of people on here dont like to be questioned or heaven forbid wrong but I thought at the end of the day it's about learning. When I post a topic and it causes 5 pages of replies and the only consensus is Mike Diamond is right cause hes Mike Diamond(never said he was wrong btw, just questioned him) then I think my questions were more than justified. Plus 90% of the replies on here told me to do things I already did or asked questions that I had already answered multiple times in previous posts. I had to say like 10 times all the areas were raised and yet I still was bombarded with replies that parts were incused or just glue or whatever. I cant be taken at my word but Mike Diamond should be 100% of the time....a little bit of hypocrisy I think. Finally I would like to add I have no animosity towards Mike Diamond. Its the point of it all. I'm sure his opinion on this coin is right and I'm guessing he knows because hes done the research, asked questions, listened to opinions and not just some random internet account told him that's what it is and deal with it. It's not dropped letters, or a "weird clash" so to speak, In my honest opinion. There's two options here, Post mint damage,,,,, or a die damage event. IF it is a die damage event, in time (year or two for all of the 2020Ps to enter circulation) other examples will turn up and look exactly the same because it's on the die, and the die is going to keep striking coins until it's retired, so It's not going to be a "one off" situation, there SHOULD be more out there to turn up. I seriously have no idea what yall are arguing about here, it's a nickel, I'm satisfied with calling it Die Deterioration and die chips, and worth maybe a five dollar bill on ebay. If it were Dropped letter, or "weird clash" it'd still be a five dollar bill on ebay If it's what Mike Diamond says it is (and I'd suspect he's right, he's written books on error coins, has a error website, contributes to coin publications https://www.coinworld.com/news/prec...ntrude.html, IT's literally what he does for a career) then guess what? Still a five dollar bill on ebay. And you'll likely have to give free shipping also to make that $5.00.... it's not worth the effort or the 5 pages of back and forth over, In my honest opinion, the argument is whether it's a 5 cent nickel or a $2.00 nickel.... Nope. Call it whatever you like. It's a nickel with a couple tiny blobs near the letters. It's not one of the major DDOs, it's not an off metal coin or wrong planchet coin, it's not a flipover double broadstrike. I'm out! Report this Post to the Staff

While stirring the pot in the name of learning might be fun/funny for the person doing it, trust me as a teacher, in a classroom students get tired of a fellow student for what (sorry - its fact - not specifically aimed at you) everyone in the room deems as immature and arrogant actions. Self defeating attitude exemplified. Whatever amusement (you said LOL) you derived from this, rather than just plainly asking questions, is a good method for making people get disgusted at helping anyone anymore. Your posts also seem to imply (important word there) that you don't care if people think you are arrogant and foolish. Thus compounding the affect on the helpers. Laying all the cards on the table, some of your replies posted, such as saying you never really SAID you doubted Mike Diamond, remind (important word) me of former students who tried to save face when finding they were wrong (especially publicly). I am not saying you are this type of person. I do not know you. I am letting you know that this mindset is what posts on a forum can lead others to believe/figure. And since words in a post cannot reveal intention: I am typing is without a feeling of negativity. Education is always foremost on my mind and learning at others; expense is not wise.
