The upshot is I can see it before I buy it. This can be good considering the hit or miss quality of mint packaging these days!

That is a very matter of fact clear thinking lucid idea JB !!
Hmmmmmm....I might have to re-consider my own plans of trying to nab 3 sets from the Mint.

You might as well get three. Hopefully at least one of them (your "keeper") will be gem! The others you can return, sell, or trade!

Buy two, keep the better one, then sell the other one a few years later!

Since everyone seems to think that the 2009 Lincoln Dollar will sell out, you would only want to sell any of them after the Mint sells out!

I received my two Lincoln Proofs last night !
What a stunning coin !....
Today or tomorrow they'll go to the Safety Deposit Box at the bank...
Wish I didn't have to do that because it's so inconvenient but :
it's climate controlled
it's thief proof
relatively flood proof
it's fire proof
it's tornado proof (and that season is almost here.....remember last years tornado season ?....WHEW !

Yesterday I received my order from the Mint for the 4-UNC'S and 2-proof's, these are all very nice and better than I thought from the pictures I had seen prior, I am sorry some were not up to par,for others, I received a bag of DC Quarters, what was I thinking, looking for errors, the bag is filled with banged up, scratched, gouged coins, 1st time from the Mint I had received something in this shape, I know the bag ride to my house did not do all that damage, I think.....

I ordered my UNC on the 12th, it was marked shipped on the 20th in the evening, and I received it on the 28th. The wait was worth it. It's a very powerful depiction of Mr. Lincoln! The bottom's-up view almost makes him look like a deity. I have to take my hat off to the Mint on this one. They did it right. I still want to get a proof with the new cents when it comes out in the spring.
