1957-D Nickel WDDR-001 + Repunched Mint Mark / RPM /Die Clash? Possible OMM

Coindom76 Valued Member United States 205 Posts	Posted 09/11/2021 2:06 pm This 1957D nickel appears to be a match for WDDR-001 and shows die clashing on the obverse and reverse. What has me scratching my head about this nickel is the mint mark. It appears to be either a RPM or OMM. I can not find a match on Wexlers and the variety vista websites. Looking at the mint mark on this 1957D nickel it appears to either have a die gouge or two die scratches running NW, one through and one above it. It also has what looks like a small die chip on the right upper side of the mint mark. When looking at the mint mark close it appears to have the bottom of an S right below the D. Any input from the community about this 1957D nickel or these issues would be appreciated. Coindom76 Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 09/11/2021 2:30 pm No clash. No RPM. But extreme die wear LLDS and Struck Through Grease weakening a lot of the devices. When you look at the mintmark with a light showing the left sides of the mintmark, you will see metal striation marks from the Machine Doubling. They look like this: The movement of the dies during die movement after the strike, will leave behind these marks of striation lines off the dies edge movement on the devices. I understand about coins being stuck through grease,LSD and Machine Doubling. That doesn't appear,to me, to be the issue on this coin. Report this Post to the Staff
