While there really isn't a "mint state" for counterfeits, this is the finest example I have ever seen of one of these old cast coins. Usually they are half beat up or worn, but this one should show what they actually looked like when they were made.
It is not a terrible counterfeit, considering the primitivity of the process. The details are pretty much spot on (from a distance). If I saw this on a dealers tray I would just assume it is a metal detecting find and move on.
I guess I am trying to say that nothing screams counterfeit on a quick first glance.

Thanks folks! And that's a fair question about the edge. It has nice reeding, but I'll be out all day and will see about pulling it out of the 2x2 for a pic tonight or maybe tomorrow.
