This nickel seems to have suffered some sort of environmental damage to get it this weird color, so this is what we call post mint damage, or PMD. Report this Post to the Staff

Second, the surface staining is a bit distracting, but I agree that the reason for the missing number 2 in the date is most likely due to this coin being struck from a grease-filled die. That is a fun find. I agree with Spence, most likely a partial Grease Filled Die effecting the date, but very minor with no real premium. Always a good idea to post photos of both sides of your coin. Thanks.
