My best fried Rick came for a visit earlier in May. We planned two metal detecting trips here in SE Wisconsin.

The first was to a Lutheran Bible Camp where I have hunted several times before. The camp was founded in 1944 and sits along a lake with lots of grassy hillsides.

Down by the lake, I dug up this 1944-P Jefferson silver War Nickel. It was the first War Nickel I have found. The coin has little, if any wear, and still retained most of its luster. I would suspect it was dropped in 1944 or 1945, shortly after the camp opened.

I sent a photo of the coin to the camp's director. He asked if I would consider donating it to the camp since it dates to around the camp's opening. I was happy to do so.

I also dug up this 1943 Washington quarter, probably lost in the 1950s. Rick found a .925 silver ring along the wooden toboggan slide that runs down the hillside to the lake. Between the two of us we also found five Wheaties. It was a fun day detecting. Rick wants to come back and hunt the camp again.

Congratulations and good job on donating the nickel to the camp! I hope they know how to keep it looking this nice.
