Found this when rifling thru my change. It definately looks like a DDR to me but id like to hear what anyone else has to say. Ive looked online and I cannot find one with the same doubling as this one

to the CCF First, it is not a proof, it is a business strike. Not sure where you see DDR, it looks like a regular worn quarter. In the future, please include a complete picture of the coin, sometimes there are markers on other parts that may help us.

. Not a proof and not a doubled die. It is called MD=machine doubling with no added value. John1

Thanks for the reply john. I'm pretty sure its a proof. Its just been in circulation. The edges are perfect 90 degree edgea. Which are a tell tail of a proof. My bad for the bad pic ill load better one when I get home. But it just looks weird to me.. do u know why there is doubling just in that one spot and not really anywhere else?

Eager to see new photos--obverse and reverse--large and sharp. As it stands now, it appears to be a business strike--just my opinion. I'm also leaning toward Machine Doubling. New images will certainly help. Thanks.

clearly not a proof. M.D. under steps is common in that area.

The devices are enlarged on a Doubled Die. On Machine Doubling the devices are reduced with most of the time showing a square 90 degree corner on the affected area. Note the last image on the DDR: Note how the spread line is not out the outside edge of the devices but on the devices. Also note how the devices are enlarged in size. You can have a Doubled die with Machine Doubling, but Machine Doubling never creates a doubled die. That is the job of the die. There is doubling on the die, thus this hub shows very plainly on this example. Take another look at the image with this new information to new collectors. Need more information: Check out CoopHome for more subjects on Machine Doubling. (lots there)

there might be minor Machine Doubling on the bottom of the building but it would add no value, also I does appear to be a business strike rather then a proof, natural lighting full shots of both sides is the best way to judge.

Business strike coins are only struck once. A proof coin is struck twice and have mirror like surfaces. Some of the early die states of the Proof Nickels have a Cameo or Deep Cameo appearance. These are worth more than the common Proof nickels. But on the newer coins all have this maintained deep cameo appearance and they are not as valuable. PR-69 Nickel: https://www.PCGS.com/cert/42631496$28 PR-69 Cameo: https://www.PCGS.com/cert/84051765$32 PR-69 DCAM: https://www.PCGS.com/cert/44252616$185 Todays Maintained Cameo: 2020-S DCAM-70 (highest grade) https://www.PCGS.com/cert/40730921$22 (Not worth spending $50 to have it slabbed) The value could be a lot less when you go to sell you fancy slabbed coin.[b]Know the facts, before thinking of sending a coin in to be slabbed.[b]
