Dearborn- How can you tell the difference? Honest question. I would have been giddy if I found something like this. I don't want to get work up over nothing.

Does appear to be Die Deterioration doubling--not a doubled die.

Die Deterioration Doubling ( DDD), common issue, not worth collecting in my opinion. Research examples by using the text box in the upper left hand of every page here on CCF.

Practice your coin photography and give us the whole coin, both sides. It can be done, others are doing it with ease. Keep trying!

Well there is 2 type of doubling that are not considered errors and are quite common on virtually every coin minted. (with the exception of the very first batch of new coins on new dies.)
1.Machine Doubling - which is formed usually when the hammer die bounces or there is play in the set-up is the presses and the when the die bounces it moves just slightly. You can tell this MD by see how the devices look, They are step like and are narrowed - as if a part of the device was hit and pushed down further forming the step.

2. Die Deterioration Doubling - When the die is used it wears out and the sharp corners soften and 'smear' the devices sideways. You can tell this type is because with DDD they will smear towards the rim every time (lite your up above.

. The proper spelling would be doubled die,but your coin is DDD. There are many types of doubling we all need to learn. Here is a good link to read and book mark:https://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles...Doubling.htm
