Yokozuna Pillar of the Community United States 4618 Posts	Posted 08/11/2023 08:39 am The laser etched cameo on the dies that's transferred to the coins seems to have discernable line pattern across the devices. It's easier to notice on the obverse of the Peace dollar in the lighter areas just in front of Liberty's eye and on her cheek near the hair. It makes me think of the lathe lines found of some coins, but these are straight and parallel, not concentric circles. I get the same pattern on both the Morgan and the Peace dollar. It's most noticeable on the Peace obverse, but all of the pictures I shot show the same line pattern in the etching. I've made a closeup image of the pattern and added an overlay that matches the orientation that I see. This isn't a digital artifact in the image, as it can be seen on direct observation of the coin's cameo. livingwater Pillar of the Community United States 2247 Posts	Posted 08/11/2023 08:42 am I assume when the mint has a product limit, say 400K, that does not mean they strike all 400K before release day. They may strike xxx number to fulfill subscriptions and release day orders but then they are put on "back order" until the rest are struck? I suppose if the mint struck all of a product limit before release they might be stuck with too many that never get sold. I hope "back order" means a few weeks and not months away.
