I need another pair of eyes to take a look at these two dimes. There 3 die markers which are two or three die chips and a couple of cracks that line up very well. The chips are a little different which are probably the result of the die breaking up over time. On the second dime, the spot behind the ear is showing a new die chip that is not on the first dime. Take a look and let me know what you think. Thanks.

Seems pretty close to me. Do the reverses also seem to match?

I got so engrossed with the obverse that I forgot to check the reverse. I'll take a look and get back.

Yes... Yes There is one tiny die chip on the bottom of the oak branch near the point. It matches on both coins. I'll add the pics in the morning.

OK... Here are the reverse shots. One die chip on the oak branch matches the other. This would be my second find in a month. What are the odds? All came from the same bank. Yeah, I know, not worth much but I think the find is rare and it tells a story.

Looks like they are from the same machine. the die chips could happen in a batch that new ones may have showed up later on. So they were probably from the same machine setup. Die chips are a permanent die event. Once there, they will not go away. But new ones could be added as the die ages. What is a die chip? It is when part of the metal breaks off of the die, leaving a void. Then coins will be filled on the coins struck with that die leaving the raised die chip on the coins. So die chips do not go away, but can continue to develop new die chips. They are a common die event, and serve as a marker for a die. But only important on a die variety, or if you need to see a pattern on a certain die, like what you did for these coins.

Hey that is pretty cool to get a die match like that @hew. Definitely save them together as a set.

Thanks Guys. I'm pretty versed on Die chips and cracks. I usually go for the Roosevelt dime because they seem to have the most. The Philly mint has the most. Denver seems to be a bit better at maintaining the dies and I see very few from them. In the last 3 or 4 years, those have increased. My count shows about 10 to 20 percent return on bank rolls for those die events. I have over 150 dimes with some type of event that I have collected over the last 4 months. I am currently building some software to help me with matching up those coins that come the same dies. Thanks for the response.
