Hello all!

Stumbled into this page on google, I read the rules and hope this is in the right spot. I used to collect a decade ago, but it's been awhile.. looking to get back into it. I found this piece I linked below in the photos on a marketplace. I did some side by sides with google photos, but a few things stick out. I know it isn't milled, so there will be more imperfections, but the cross seems oddly prominent and there is a general lack of patina. I'm assuming that it was cleaned (sigh) but, is there anything that sticks out here to make this a "fake." Any and all help/insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know much at all about Spanish colonial coinage, but it is faked a lot. I would guess this is fake, or at least an imitation, made for jewelry.

For the weight to make sense it would have to be a 4 reales, like this Mexican Felipe V https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces53656.html But it's too light, especially as it is in a holder, and the metal really doesn't look right at all.

A cast replica of a Mexico 1733 klippe dies 8 Reales - see compared to a previously observed example below.

Note that it is indeed a repro of an 8 rather than a 4, despite the very low weight (13g minus the bezel vs. the ~27g weight as made for a genuine example)... the denomination is clear on the other piece.

Study genuine examples, then come back and look at these - should start to become clear.
