Unknown Token/Coin (Id: 1890-S Rulau# Brg 6. Brass Token)

jzanes New Member United States 3 Posts	Posted 03/07/2009 09:05 am Hey guys. I am new to this forum and am trying desperately to get some info on a coin/token I found. My parents own a farm and on the property is an old foundation of a home that was around in the late 1800's. I have just recently gone out there and started digging around and I found a coin/token that say on the front "Coining Press Made by Ferracute Machine Co" Bridgeton, NJ USA and on the back it has a picture of two dogs. I tried looking it up and there is no information on this. I don't even know what it is made of. It is about the size of a half dollar. So how do I find out what year it was minted and how it came to be where it was. Or atleast just the basic history of it? Report this Post to the Staff
DCH Pillar of the Community United States 645 Posts	Posted 03/07/2009 2:39 pm Russell Rulau's "Standard Catalog of United States Tokens" is the standard reference for early US tokens. 'Brg 6' is the catalog number, 38mm is the diameter. Mintage date is unknown, but probably 1890's or a bit earlier. Tokens like this were generally produced and distributed as advertising for the company. Google "Ferracute Machine Company" to learn about the company. Report this Post to the Staff
