I would hope that the average coin intelligence is better here than on Facebook.

Your picture was great, it really gave a useful insight into how errors like this look like.

Fortunately, it usually is!

Can this thing be pried into 2 parts? I see a seam on the edge, And 2 small 'dimples' that look as if it was crimped.
In addition, I see why hfjacinto says the design 'ends' before the end of the coin - It had a chamfer around the circumference.

Go to a local Gold and Silver dealer and see if they do a free XRF analysis with their fancy machine. First glance, I would say it is a counterfeit. The rough surface quality and paint-on tarnish appearance looks like the usual coin made in China.

Half Dime planchet struck with a half dollar die, it's round and 100% legit. So almost not possible.

Could you share more information about this Half Dime? I would like to learn more.

Regarding the round statement, I should have been more specific in stating that the OPs coin appears to have a distinct edge that you would expect from a coin struck in a collar.

Thanks Zurie, I forgot about that. That is a special case, not just a Half Dime planchet dropped into half dollar dies alone.

Thanks everyone.

I've really enjoyed reading your replies, the general feeling being that the coin is counterfeit.

I still wanted to post the measurements from the digital calipers that arrived.

Diameter at various points across the coin

Mesurement 1 - 21.03mm
Mesurement 2 - 20.92mm
Mesurement 3 - 20.86mm

Thickness - 1.75 mm to 1.80mm

I'm going to upload some photos shot on a DSLR when I get a new memory card, as the post processing on the Google Pixel 7 isn't a great accuracy of what the coin looks like in person.

Hi Again, sorry to drag this back up, as the general consensus is that the coin is counterfeit / novelty, but as promised please find some higher quality images. Thanks.

Nice edge-views. Those can be difficult.
