Well, I've graduated from Pennies and Nickels. Bought this from a neighbor this morning who heard I was getting into coins. I've plowed through all the pictures and figure it's probably about a VF30. Even in that condition, the auctions are pretty high for this. SO definitely sending this in to PCGS and then on to Heritage Auctions or something like that. Thougths? (It's like holding history), p.s. He took it to a dealer and they ticked him off, so he offered to me.

@maj, this isn't my area of expertise, but are you sure it's real? See here:

Also, if it wasn't real, I don't think the dealer would have offered him what they did. He actually sold it to me a bit less. Beyond that, PCGS will have to confirm it.

Ok I hope I'm wrong with my suspicions. Others who are way more knowledgeable will weigh in too.

I'm suspicious too. (So is my wife). But there's no way to know for sure in this kind of circumstance and I wasn't going to miss the opportunity. Anything can be faked, I know that, but due to how he came about it, and what he's told me, I believe him. I believe HE thinks it real anyway, and I tested it as pure. I'm more nervous sending it to PCGS through the mail than I am anything else. But, no guts, no glory. Coins are out there, and this DIDN'T come through the internet.

Looks like a one look fake. Appears to have a reeded edge. Would not touch with a 100 ft pole.

Not trying to rain on your parade. The reverse appears wrong. The whole appearance is off. Is the edge reeded? weight / measurments?

Just trying to help, I would try to get your money back. IMO this coin is not real. If I had an overlay of what a real coin looks like ontop of this one it would be evident. Also if your coin has a reeded edge it is not real.

Do you have the coin in hand & does it have a reeded edge?

I'm sorry. You hit a nerve. It's all cool. Just been a long day. I apologize. I already have offers for way more than what I paid for it so I'm not worried. But here's the pictures from the PCGS website and I've gone over every detail with my loupe. I am convinced that it is 100% legit. But I've made stupid mistakes before. Oh, and yes, I have the coin in hand, and it is positively silver. The back of mine is worn pretty bad, but it still matches the pictures.

Yours is an 1800 and the PCGS pic is a 1798. Is the edge reeded? Is the edge reeded? If you send it in, please let us know what they say with a photo of the slab.

This is not my series nor expertise However I am 100% certain yours is not authentic and will not continue this discussion as it seems pointless to keep reiterating myself. Again, weight / measurements / is the edge reeded? that should help you confirm it is counterfeit.
