NumisRob Bedrock of the Community United Kingdom 17914 Posts	Posted 11/04/2023 07:31 am In 1947 The Royal Mint struck a 12-sided nickel-brass threepenny coin for Fiji, to the same specifications as the coin that had been circulating in the UK for ten years. The obverse of the coin showed King George VI with the legend 'George VI King Emperor' reflecting the British King's status as Emperor of India. India became an independent republic on August 15, 1947, so further issues of this coin had the obverse legend amended to 'King George the Sixth'.
