from the limited amount of the coin that we were allowed to view, I may say it 'COULD' be the Ring of Death ( Coin Wrapping Machine Damage.)

Now how about a full coin image?

I think that split plate doubling is most often between the letter and the rim, rather than like the OP's coin where it is inward-facing. Maybe just plain damage, where the copper plating had been sharply removed?

@Dearborn-The cat knocked my camera stand off my desk , so it's broken. This is the best I can do until I break out my duct tape. I found it will fix almost anything. Do these additional photos help at all?
