I am new to collecting, mostly I stick to graded coins especially when it comes to older ones. Is this coin/medal worth grading? It has a spot on the side of the coin and the back. I could not upload the full photos, I had to crop and resize them to fit the upload rules.

In my opinion, it is not worth grading. Bronze medals sell for around $50, while silver versions sell for about $125 raw.

Impressive find indeed. As for grading, if for resale no. If for personal preference than by all means. I would enjoy it as is and for what it is.

Thanks for the input everyone! I may still grade it and keep it. I have no idea if it is even MS or AU quality, but it looks decent, and I have never sent in coins to either NGC or PCGS before. I usually buy graded coins on ebay or at coin shops.

not worth the cost of grading due to relatively love value. But if all the rest of your cons are graded and you only want to have a consistent collection, then I see no harm...

Your medal is a So Called Dollar classified as HK-21 in the 2nd addition of the Hibler-Kappen reference volume.

Yours appears to be the bronze version and is quite common with approximately 13,000 struck.

Your call of course to pay to have it certified, but the cost of doing so will exceed the current numismatic value of the medal.
