I did some research into some local history and found out that there was a horse track a hundred years ago on one of our parks. The park is still there but the track ended in 1904 or something. I got a permit to search the parks with my metal detector. My question is something that old must be deeper than my detector can search right? Before I dive into search mode, I want to be properly prepared. Do I have the right equipment? Bounty hunter discovery 1100
Also thanks to the person that referred me to sanborn maps. I found the map to the track from 1897 pretty cool.

Not really too deep I would say. I live in an area where some major Civil War action took place and relics are unearthed here all the time. Just be careful and observant of all local, state, and federal laws applicable to the hobby. Familiarize yourself with the Archaeological Resources Protection Act of 1979

Here is the link....http://www.nps.gov/history/local-la...srcsProt.pdf

Although that does not stop most detectorist, It does leave an avenue for possible prosecution.

Thanks Tim, I appriciate the help.
I talked with the head of the park board recently and he said to give it my best shot. "hope you find somethin" Also, I have a signed document allowing me to do it. the only parks I can't are the nature preserve, and the golf course. I'll keep you posted if I find anything
