Nothing dated conclusively for me until 1380, so I'll post again on Saturday.

...that explains why this thread hadn't been posted in for a while. I was wondering what happened...
(Apparently the relevant part of the original How Far Back threads was covered by a sequence of datable-but-undated coins.)

Updated gap listing: 1464, 1463, 1462, 1457, 1454, 1446, 1414, 1409, 1408, 1407, 1389, 1385, 1384. We're on 1383 today but it looks like there's a few more upcoming gaps. I don't have anything until a very confusing entry for 1374/776 (next Friday).

I think that we also had input from @JohnConduitt and perhaps @EddieDiz at this point in HFBCWG.
The gaps are valuable in as much as it gives some of us targets for future acquisitions.

Agreed! Looks like I've got plenty of targets though.

Meanwhile my expected Moscow trip keeps getting pushed back - currently pencilled in for mid-March but honestly I no longer know which time is realistic. At this rate it could end up being in July or something.
(We have enough things to do there that it's unlikely for it to not happen at all - though with the government up there getting increasingly paranoid it's possible that we end up not going for a while yet just because it becomes too hard to get to/from. Honestly it's already pretty close.)

EDIT:

Yes - and briefly also @Collects82, whose 14th century entry is a datable coin (from Venice).

That sounds accurate.

I hoped they would be more active in this topic. John has posted 4 times, am Eddie not at all.

Two coins for 1380 CE - AH 782
First is this Juchid AE Pul with the mixed up date of 872 = 782
This issue is a real mystery. Dozens of die combinations are known, but all bear the erroneous date - 872, which is strange, because this coin is undisputably Jujid, not Girayid. The date 872 is an error for 782 AH (1380 AD), which would mean this type was minted by the authority of Khan Toqhtamysh (1378-1397). There were some attempts undertaken to decipher the lower line, but in vain.

Second is a Delhi Sultans BI Tanka AH 782, with the date at 7.30, LH image

Excellent coins!

There sure seems to be a lot of error dates out there - the Juchids, in particular, seem to mix up their 7s and 8s all the time, but it shows up pretty frequently in other areas too.
(My entry for next week is a blatant example of that kind of thing.)

Current gap listing: 1464, 1463, 1462, 1457, 1454, 1446, 1414, 1409, 1408, 1407, 1385, 1384, 1383, 1382, 1381. A few more consecutive stretches like that and I might need to compress the listings.
After this nearly-empty week the proportion of gaps had shot up to almost 7% (corresponding to just over 93% coverage). AFAIK we're still mostly on track to plausibly not crossing 10% before entering the 13th century, though.
