Well, I am still using my woefully-outdated Second Edition from 1998, but for this coin, I purchased it directly from a SARC auction.

Ah, ok. I'm using the Third Edition which is free as a download on Stephen Albums website

Been a while since the most recent update to the missing dates list...

I've decided to count the 690/1291 for now, following @ttkoo's reading, but I'm really failing to find any comparable examples.
When was the SARC auction - maybe I can try to match the coin there? There is an AH 690 from Bayburt in the SARC database but it doesn't seem to be your coin or even have the same design.

I believe we should (finally) be into the range of the infamous Antioch crusader dirhams... anyone willing to post and discuss one of those?

Actually, with a slight rotation, it is very close to the 690 Bayburt you have referenced.

An odd departure is at 3K (question mark) where it seems to me the letter ha' closes off a word, but on @Spence's this is in the middle of "and ninety". I'm not sure (or experienced enough to comment what this is)

Sorry just noticing this question now. I bought it in July of 2016. The stock number was #185860 and the price list #292 (i.e. not an auction). Here is a link to the webpage--pictures no longer up though:

Also, can you please tell us which year we are on? I think that it must be around 1240, which means I'm only a few weeks away from having another coin to post. Thx!

It is, in fact, exactly 1240. (We are closing in on a year since the thread started.)

IIRC you had some dated Acre dirhams from the 1250s; do you now disagree with their dating? I recall that it is quite a contentious series.

Ok hmm. I'm only seeing one Dirham from Acre dated in the 1250s in my collection. For that one, I've got a date range of 1253 to 1260 AD based on the information that I had on hand when I bought it in 2017, but I'm now seeing similar pieces on acsearch ascribed to specific years. Shall I post it and we take a closer look?

Ok here ya go. I appreciate all input from you folks on this. Here are the details given to me by the seller (Civitas Galleries):

SKU: ME63769 - Quantity: 1 - CRUSADERS Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem Imitating as-Salih Isma'il, Ayyubid Sultan of Damascus 1253-1260's AD Imitative Dirhem Good VF

I couldn't find an exact die match, but what I see of the design and the margins looks like a match for this category.

If so, the coin is dated 1253 in the AD calendar (with the final letters of "fifty" visible at 3h on the first photo, and possibly the initial letters of "three" at 6h).

A very interesting coin and discussion. In Zeno, I found a reference to an paper entitled 'Monnaies croisees d'argent d'imitation ayyoubide',
by Abdulsalam Albachkami, pp. 471 - 491, in Revue Numismatique, Paris, 2011.
After searching for this I found a copy, in French, but it is missing all photgraphs mentioned. However, after translating to English, I found it very interesting and relevant to our discussion on @Spence' s coin. If anyone would like a text copy, pm me and I will email it to you.
The article mentioned above is https://www.persee.fr/doc/numi_0484...m_6_167_3036

There's a version on Scribd that has the pics... but the pics are very tiny and I can't tell anything from them anyway.

Thanks @j1m, I'll try and add the pics to my translation. The scribd translation is pretty ordinary, lots of errors and overlaps.

Don't hold your breath @Spence
