I don't wish anything to happen to anyone. I am a big fan of I.C.C.S. as well I have a great respect for the owner Brian Cornwell and his son Scott Cornwell.
This is only a hypothetical situation and NO, to the best of my knowledge Brian is not ill. Collectors of Canadian coins who enjoy having them slabbed, I being one of 'em have the highest regard for I.C.C.S.
I also do know that Brian Cornwell is the sole grader for the company which is a family run business. We are all mortals and sooner or later our number is picked and you know what that means. So what will happen to I.C.C.S. company if / when Brian passes away? Any ideas?

Glenn

Is he ill or something?

While it has its pluses and minuses, "one man" grading would never be taken seriously in the US. It fascinates me that Brian's word is take so seriously here. No one is THAT good (ie perfect), but Canadians have their (own) way.

I have several "single best" coins graded by ICCS so I hope there is a real answer to your question.

Do you mean to say, that one man grades the coins at ICCS?

That it is the end of a grading company if he passes away?

Hey guys.... NOBODY said he was ill!!!
the question was simply: what would happen IF ??
as far as it is known, Brian is the ONLY person grading coins at ICCS.
they keep everything very secret around them. Still operate in the 60ties.. NO web site !, NO email communicationTTTTT .. NO coin verification online.....
answer the phone only until about 15:00.
SO, what would.... could ? happen?
to the best of my knowledge his son Scott does not, or very seldom grade coins....

I would have thought ICCS was a much larger grading company than only having one person grade coins?

I don't know if I could trust the judgement of only a single person grading my coins, what would make him such an expert, that someone else couldn't do?

Just to address this one point: I don't want anyone handling my $100,000 coin with gloves on. You take it for granted that you're handing the coin over to an "expert" in the handling process, and anyone who works with their hands realizes how much feel and dexterity you lose by donning gloves. The chance of dropping a coin is greatly magnified by the use of gloves, and for that reason I will never handle a coin of any value while wearing them. I know how to properly handle a coin without gloves, and I'd certainly expect them to, as well.

Per: dropping coins with gloves on.
Put piece of foam in your work area, textured gloves..problem solved.
I surely would not want an unremoveable finger print to develop on my slabbed coin 2 years down the road, compliments of the professionals.

now, think about MS 70 heavy cameo..., perhaps even a gold coin.. (gold does not tarnish, but it does tone... as far as I know.) To handle these coins "fresh off the press" is with silk gloves, and only on the rims. they used to catch them with gloves coming off the press, as apparently some presses just dropped the coins below... wayyyyyyyyy back in times.
if you would not wear gloves, oil, acids and other minute particles on your skin could / would transfer to the coin, even in minute amounts. It would start a contamination process which you would not want...
ever seen toned cameo coins in a slab?

hello everyone....
we are missing the subject here....
subject is ICCS-Brian Cornwell
I really think it is important that we get to the bottom of this, as most of us depend to large extend on ICCS.
I believe the Coin Community as a whole would be entitled to answers from ICCS.
perhaps one of the Moderators can inquire with ICCS on behalf of all of us.
However... ICCS does NOT have a website NOR email!!!
this subject is much to important, as the future values of our coins could depend on it.
facts are:
1 ICCS works together with Canadian Coin News, or at least have a close and fuzzy soft cooperation
2 ICCS and Charlton Press, the issuer of the Canadian Coin Bible, are in very close cooperation

3 ICCS is hiding in the stone ages....WHY ?
all the above is , to say it in a nice way, of great importance and interest to all of us.

lets go for it..and find out

It's an important question. I (as I suspect many others here) have a lot of hard-earned cash tied up in coins graded by ICCS, whose future value is very closely tied to the fate of the company.

It disturbs me that PCGS handles coins with bare hands in the video. Pure gold coins are basically chemically inert, but almost all other metals will react with the oils on your skin given enough time!

Well Glenn,

I assume ( and you all know what that does...lolololo, just spell slow) the business will go to the estate. i.e. Scott and Family. However, apparently he does NOT grade coins...
So Guys and Girls.... WHO will continue?
As I mentioned before, perhaps a Moderator should enquire with ICCS on behalf of all of us.
It appears this subject is not of great interest to many. However, it will be, the moment the unpreventable happens... then everyone wants to know.......unless of course, Brian Cornwell is forever.....
i would assume the business will then be sold or a partner arrangement will be made with someone else, like CCCS and Scott staying on... OR, with an American TPG. who else?
there are not too many options....

How about a new service - HCCS - HHB's Coin Certification Service?

Well.. I'll say this.. I was thinking about sending some Canada Silver dollars to ICCS for grade, but after finding out that only one person grades coins, I would rather put them on CCF's grading forum and at least three or four people will grade them.
