I recall seeing a guy who advertised that he'd make one of these "cut-out" coins for $15 plus postage. I used to have a collection that had all sorts of odd-ball coins and tokens; mostly, moved on now. A few cut-outs like a large cent, Mercury dime, Barber and Seated coins were included. The best one was an 1885 nickel in XF condition that was very well executed or "murdered" as you say! While the numismatist within me shuddered, it's long fascinated me how folks found so many different ways to alter and be creative with coins. My favorites were the "box dollars" or so-called "opium" Trade dollars that popped open to reveal photos.

I like the Texas quarters, and the Roosevelt dime crosses, but how did they straighten them out and get them so long?

Quote: how did they straighten them out and get them so long The nice thing about metal especially silver is it is incredibly malleable. Work slow aneal correctly and you can change it any way you please.
