Not sure what's going on with this one. the mintage: P - 84,560,000 D - 87,780,000 S - 3,362,237 (proof) Other presidential coins from 2007 have mintages in the 100 millions But the next year issues are much lower than the Madison coin. and are selling for 2 dollars or so. On ebay, if I did a search for James Madison dollar with the dates of his presidency, I get responses with crazy prices, but if I do a search without the extra dates, I get normal pricing for one.

Looks like a harshly circulated Presidential dollar, value $1. Maybe they thought it was gold, or misunderstood that the strike year is on the edge?

Have to point us at the auction so we can read the description, but $500 value is bunk.
There are a couple of errors involving doubled or missing edge lettering, but even those are valuable only in mint state.

Quote: misunderstood that the strike year is on the edge These regularly appear on ebay. Seller represents it as minted in the year on the obverse with a bid price similar to the one Moniker is showing.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

I have no idea why priced so high. The auction page doesn't really give any information as why either.

This auction house (Auctionet) is not really an auction house directly -- they list auctions by other auction houses. "We are a marketplace where auction houses from all over Europe sell furniture, art, design items, collectibles and more." https://auctionet.com/en/aboutThis item is being sold through https://ra-auktionsverket.se -- they're hardly coin specialists and probably don't know what they're doing here.

Very sad. Just a normal heavily circulated dollar coin.
Errers and Varietys.
