https://www.ebay.com/itm/147130718701A truly misshapen coin. My immediate thought is fake, but people have done some strange things to vintage coins. Most of this guy's coins have that rainbow toning, which I tend to assume is artificial in some way.

I'd say it's counterfeit. The details are all wrong. Also, I looked at the seller's feedback, and he's known to artificially tone his coins, and also cleans them. Avoid this seller at all costs. Don't buy anything from this seller.

From the auction description (emphasis mine): Quote: The product is a 1857 1c Flying Eagle Small Cent, minted in Philadelphia. This copper coin features the iconic Flying Eagle design and is in AU (about uncirculated) high grade with a lustrous toned finish. It is a circulated business strike coin from the United States, perfect for collectors interested in US small cents from the mid-19th century struck on silver rare coin Toned.

Spence, at this point, I assume that any ebay description which is redundant, verbose, inaccurate, and cheerful is probably authored by AI. I really hadn't heard of people making fakes of common date small cent coins, that's why this odd duck caught my attention.

Is it a fake? My word - the denticles aren't even attached to the rim and look more like a circle of beads.........and if that isn't enough, the feathers on that poor bird are a joke.
