Sellers pics, not mine. Considering making an offer. CCF, what are your thoughts on this raw Morgan?

Looks like a genuine VAM-7. The obverse surfaces are a little rough, and it may have had a past cleaning, but it has AU-50 sharpness and I'm leaning towards a straight grade.

The coin is full of chatter and nicks, especially the obverse that I think will keep it in XF grade - 40/45

XF45 maybe AU50. reverse is solid AU50 in my mind
the more I look at it the more my concern is that the lighting is not the best and may not be showing what the surfaces actually look like in hand. ensure seller is reputable and has return privileges as its probably not cheap. retail is probably in the $900-1000 raw

I'll say EF.
Errers and Varietys.

Seems like a solid EF to me.

Appreciate the feedback, all. I'm leaning towards XF45. If I'm successful in acquiring it, I'll let you know.

1892 is on its way. Here's my digitally assembled collection so far. Pictures aren't perfect, but good enough to represent what I've assembled so far.

EF 40. Obverse surfaces look choppy. I wouldn't by a raw coin, or a slabbed one for that matter, sight unseen without return privileges. I have returned several TPG graded coins with misleading photos. I have a straight graded PCGS VF35 1859-S Seated dime which, although a key to the series, is double ugly. I hate it so much I bought a different PCGS VF35 on the basis of a major dealer's picture. The coin I received was nothing like the photo. It was dipped and shiny, unlike any VF coin should be, so I sent it back, keeping the ugly one I hoped to replace. Many honorable numismatists take pains to call out less than perfect features of the coins they are selling. But there are some wild west gunslingers out there and we all must be careful.

This finally arrived. The obverse has some muted cartwheel toning remaining. The reverse has nice full cartwheel toning in line with what one might expect for a low AU reverse. I'm still in the net XF45 camp. I'm happy with it for the price paid.

adam. Very nice CC, but the reverse image of this coin looks like it's been cleaned. It's in your hands, tell us about it?
