Guitarmonkee Quote: I must be retarded...I just dont get the toned thing...to me,after reading descriptions of how to grade coins it seems to me that toned coins are damaged coins. But I'm keeping an open mind,I will agree some of the coins are pretty cool! I just dont think they should be worth a premium just because they are toned...they should be worth less. No matter what the toning is or is not. Loved, hated, admired, damaged, natural or even AT. If they do in fact sell for a premium it is because one buyer is will to pay a premium. Sometimes toning raises the market value of a coin greatly, even in RAW. Many collectors only want BLAST WHITE. I personally prefer some toning, if everything else is equal.

I picked up a 20th Century type set yesterday and it has an interesting steel cent in it. Hard to get a nice picture of it through the glass but will get better ones when I open it. The other cents are laying on top of the glass. This guy is just as blue/purple as can be. I haven't seen the back yet....

Found this 1960 Canadian dime in my basement with some rainbow toning on it (somewhat difficult to see clearly but its there) I've also got a 1988 Canadian silver dollar from a proof set that has toning around the rim of the coin
