I am having the hardest time finding a affordable, '53 proof, on ebay the prices the last few days have been significantly higher. Anyone have one they would like to part with and see go to a good home?

Quote: Honestly, the Early proofs, so far haven't been THAT pricey, I still need all of the proofs from the '30's and a '41 and a '50 and '51. Its the '50 and the '36 that's scaring me. ESPECIALY the '36. When I have seen raw examples they are always waaaay out of my budget. I was just looking through my silver to see what I wouldn't mind parting with to pick up a few more proofs. I need some opinions: Sell the silver to complete the proofs or hang on to it?
Besides the matte proofs, that darned 1936 proof has been IMPOSSIBLE. I have them all except for that one! I have run across a couple over the past few years, but they were $800+ and rising. They are RARE, only 5569 minted! I got VERY lucky on my 1937 proof (9320 minted) from ebay. I can't tell you how long I looked for one to pop up on there and it was a bidding war to get it. I wish you luck on the 30's, 40's and early 50's proofs because they are TOUGH. Just look at the mintages, it makes sense that they are difficult to find.

After about a year of searching I finally found one, my notes say I paid $29 for it. What are they going for now?

Seems about right for a slabbed one. You should go to coin shows and hunt up a raw coin.

Great quality throughout the Lincoln set. Mine is definately circulated in comparison. Great job!

You might consider buying a 53 proof set, pull the cent and sell the rest as singles. As a fellow proof collector, I've been through this too....I feel your pain.

I was just literally pricing proof sets as you typed! I think it will be my best bet as I am currently in need of all but the nickel. Seems like the logical choice since the'53 proof half goes for as much as the whole set on occasion.
