I got a phone call from my bank today and they had $40 of halves and $53 in Ikes. I went through the halves and came up with nothing.
I grabbed the Ikes because I thought my kids would love spending them for lunch or at the store. Are these worth keeping? No 'S' mint marks and most look like average circulation.

Ike dollars can have some premium for mint state coins. There are also some interesting varieties out there that can be worth a premium. I myself am not too familiar with these, but I bet someone else could give you further assistance with regards to those.

You can start out here. http://www.ikegroup.org/ I know of interest in the 1971D (Friendly eagle) and the 1972 (Type 2 Rev). Also the 1973 (P&D are NIFC (I found one in circulation) and the 1976 Type 1 ( P&D ) are harder to find, and the 1977 is the lowest mintage of circulation strikes (12-13 million)

Some of the dealers in my area will buy circulated Ikes for $1.10 each when they need them for their stock.

Great resource web site that RATMAN gave you above for Ike's. I've put together 2 sets of Ike's. However, this seems to be a strange coin to collect. You read and talk to people and it seems most will tell you -- they are ugly, few people have an interest in them, no one really collects them or cares much for them, and they will never be worth much. SO this makes me think you can pick them up for double face real easy. Not even close at the coin shows I attend. Most dealers don't have them and when you ask, they tell you they don't bother with them. Concerning Kennedy halves, I really like them, but none of the banks in my area ever have any. When I do find one that is in great condition-- I keep it.

They sell a lot of the 32 coin BU/Proof sets on ebay. I don't think circulated sets go for much.

I really haven't studied the edges of 40% Ikes. I do have both BU and Proofs. In my experience with 40% halves (1965-1970) sometimes the copper is visible and sometimes it is not. I would assume the same would go with the Ikes. Since we are talking about both (proof and unc) being struck on planchets of the same composition, No, that wouldn't be an indicator. A proof coin will have mirror like surfaces and should be well struck with sharp details.
