Quote: Just FYI IMO they're both nice 1916s.
Also just FYI, I'm a little jealous...
But truly I'm VERY happy for you both! You two are a couple of the best and most dedicated numismatists on the Forum! thanks Moe! We gotta find you one too... That's the only one you need to complete your set, right? Nod's find is actually what inspired my hunt. I'd figured they'd would all be snatched by now and there would be no chance, but that's just not the case. Someone found one on the PCGS forum recently too... (046) This link is not allowed by the Staff &threadid=765358&highlight_key=y&keyword1=will%20it%20slab It's in bad shape, but still a 16.

Quote: Nope, I just stopped by today. They said it should be in next week, but NGC can be a bit slow occasionally.
I thought you were sending it to ANACS? I don't think I would have trusted a dealer with sending in a coin for me that had a bet against me that it was one date over another and saying it wouldn't come back in a certain date holder, but I guess thats just me. I would just feel allot better submitting it myself to ANACS, then if I wanted it in a NGC slab I would send it in for cross

I've never sent anything to NGC, but isn't there a way to track the coin and see the results before you actually get it back in hand?

Will you just be sending the 16 or do you plan to send others?
I have no idea how I'm going to either A) pool enough to buy a FR2-AG3 1916 or B) get lucky enough to find one in a lot, even if the lot goes for $400-500.......but eventually (years) would like to have the complete set (minus the 16 and 23S) in XF40 or better. I figure this is just something I'll be working on for a long, long time. Same with my 1868 one of each denomination set.

It depends on how comfortable I am with "holes" in my album. My means of compromising is to attach the slabbed coin to the inside of the cover with velcro(so I can easily remove it to see the reverse), and then fill the hole with a insert to match the album like I did with my Lincoln svdb. The thing with us collector addicts is our sets will always be a work in progress. After I complete the set, all of the low grade/problematic coins will stick out to me, and I will want to upgrade.. XF-40+ is a great goal, and would also be a lifelong challenge for me in this series.

I'm starting to get concerned. Still no word? A potential issue...if the dealer submitted it for you, he may have chosen the "economy" tier since he believe's it's a $3 coin. He may have only insured it for that as well. The economy tier is only good up to $300 according to NGC. What happens then when they get this coin that is obviously $1K+ coin?

Well, I got a partial explanation as to why it is taking so long. Apparently he did not get it to NGC until about 2 weeks after I go it to him.

Maybe it took him that long to find a 1917 TI in roughly the same shape to replace it with...
I really hope not. I'm just paranoid that way.

I'm sure nod trusts his dealer. Right?
