errorfinder Valued Member United States 380 Posts	Posted 02/23/2010 3:54 pm here is an idea that the cause was from a "struck/strike through"dropped device" a debris clog.the grease and metal filled in that part of the V in the die.then the debris fell out and got 'struck through' onto the coin.just an idea,but seeing as the partial 'V' is 'mushy' of not well defined it could be a clue.i'll,we'll all know soon enough hopefully,just what caused this.hopefully the mint can be "Blamed" lol . I didn't realize that people were asking me questions about this thread; haven't checked it in awhile, and I apologize! If the coin had been struck again with a struck coin there would be an impression of the rim somewhere on the coin. The struck fragment is smaller than the diameter of the nickel, so the impression can fit within the surface of the coin without impacting the rim. The struck with struck fragment is just my opinion; I could be way off! Still would like to have heard from one of the real error experts about this one! Report this Post to the Staff
