...So they are! I didn't look hard enough. The Charlton only says: "Same as 1990 issue". It's easy to overlook even though right above it in bold caps it says cupro-nickel. 2006: what a year for Canadian coins!

I read on Wikipedia (hardly a great source of information, I know) that there is debate about how 25 2000P half dollar pieces made it out of the RCM in desk clocks. It states there is similar debate about the quarters and dimes for that year too. Does anyone have information on this? sounds like a fascinating story...

Thanks, splatto. That's exactly the kind of info I was hoping to discover with this thread. Somehow we started talking about 2006, but I'd be curious what people know about 2000P (other than 5c).

There are only 8 graded 1 cent coins by ICCS in the 2010 populations book 1x MS-60, 2x MS-65 and 5x MS-66. In the 2011 Charlton Canadian coin book they mention that they were issued for testing and also mention that only 8 known in Mint State condition.

I recently acquired and sold a 2000P 50 Cents Canada housed in a desk clock. It is 1 of 25 (in a clock) and 1 of ~200 (or 276) depending on the source of your information. I'd love to hear from someone who knows for some level of certainty the ACTUAL mintage. Here are two pictures. There has only been one coin that has come on the market (at least from what I can tell online) since 2005, and it was on Heritage and was graded MS66 (I think).
