Wow goldrush - thanks for the info on the coin! And about the home security - good lighting also goes a long way. You could probably set up a video camera system in the front and back of your house to provide addn't securty.

Wow, the Dansco folders look very attractive. Having never owned one or seen one in person, how exactly do you put the coins in? Are these holders safe?

If you put them in and leave them they are safe. Any damage is gonna occur from the slides that cover the coins, if your not careful they can scratch the coins.

I keeping hoping to see some other sets posted. Would be nice to see some of the early stuff like bust half dollars .. seated or Barber coins in a Dansco. someone must have something to show us all. TheForce - Dansco is considered one of the better album for coin collecting. They have clear plastic insert for both the obverse and reverse. The plastic inserts will slide out to the right of the page, allowing the coin to be pressed into the open hole, then slide the plastic insert back in to cover the coin. They still should be stored in a cool dry place.

Is the plastic strip inert? Do the strips stay put? Are the coin slots snug fitting so they don't rattle around? Sounds like you would need gloves if your pressing the coins into the slots.

The plastic strips and PVC free, pages are inert. Yes the coins are snug fitting, only problem I have had is when putting a very worn coin, I have had those rattle around.
I have a process when putting coins into the album. I use a small vacuum to suck up and dust that may get on the coin. I use a rubber band to get the slide started enough to pull it out. And yes use cotton gloves to press the coins into the slots. You have to be careful when sliding the plastic insert across the coin. There are cases where drag marks are left on the coin. If your are careful and the coin is seated correctly than you should avoid this problem. I have some coins that have been in Dansco albums for over 20 years with no change in appearance. But then I have have some coins tone while in the album, but I believe that process may have started before placing the coin in the Dansco.

Thanks for the info. I'm just not sure if I wanna take the plunge. I really like the presentation though. Perhaps at some point I may get one for the statehood and territories quarters since I have those sets finished and wont be upgrading any of those coins. So once they are in, they are in forever.

Here is a circulated Mercury dime sets. Well over half of these I found metal detecting. In my efforts to organize my collection this past year, I bought this used Dansco, sorted through a jar of dug dimes, then checked my 2X2 boxes to fill in and upgrade. I did buy the 1921 a couple months ago. When I see a good deal, I guess I will try to upgrade some more of these coins.

My Dansco has only a few slots so I tend to rotate the coins I place in it. Here is one of the new replacements that went in last week.
