I wanted to test another impossible coin. I soaked this ancient coin for 46 hours. As expected, not much verdigris (if any) was removed. Once again, don't expect miracles!

From my personal collection, an AU or so Lincoln I've always wanted to conserve. Total time was about 5 minutes, soaked about 2 minutes per side, prodded a little with a toothpick and dried with canned air.

Thank you for the offer!
That coin would not respond well to any conservation attempts, it's too far gone. It's not worth experimenting on...so...thanks anyways. Very nice of you to offer.

BT, I haven't finished reading the whole thread, but, my question involves the verdi-gris, that is so common on the older coins, and imn my case, the FE/IHC, which is my passion,as issaid. I use mineral oil, and soak, but I don't like the "oily, greasy feel, and look they have afterwards, even long afterwards. I have seen pictures of coins that are clean, and nice looking, even in G4. that means that something can be done, or does it mean that the coins were that nice, in spite of the wear? You might give a "means to acquire' some of the "VERDI-CARE", so I can give it a try. I don't have any intention og sellingant if my tribe, so if it turnd their face red, then I won't be upset. They are just part of stayingg alive for 100 years, or more. No "rocking chair" for me! Thanks, Dick

BT, I have spent hours, reading this threafd, and will gitve it a shot, wheni dind where to get it. I have a lot og FE/IHC's that could use a "bath". I know some will not p[roduce any great effects, but others will, and that is what it is all about. I will have to go the whole batch of them, to pick out the best looking, and most likely candidates, for the treatment Thar means that more than 2 OZ. will be needed. Not a problem. Now that you have done the work, and have a good idea as to what might happen if, one, the coin is treated, and then placed into a flip, for example. What can one expect to see say, in a year from the placing? Two, in an airtite/ three, in a folder, like the whitman? That is where my coins arre, and the rest are in square tubes. I like the light filtering aspect, as opposed to the clear, round tubes. Any recommendations, in this instance? thank you for your hard work, and for the interest in the general populations collectables, ans their best interests. Diock

Here's a few more, oddball tests included. I let these set after treatment for 48 hours before taking the "after" pictures. Coin #1:Problem: This poor thing had been in a mint set and was reacting with the cardboard and/or the plastic coating on the cardboard. An attempt to remove the hard green stuff with acetone reacted with something else and the coin turned some pretty wild colors - but the acetone didn't touch whatever that green stuff is. I figured I'd try the Verdi-Care on it. Method: 30-second rub on both sides with microfiber towel + Verdi-Care, no rinse Result: Didn't touch the green stuff Made the colors quite vibrant, though! (hmm.. if I could figure out the composition of the green stuff, I could sell a mix of that and acetone to tone coins with!) (juuust kidding ) Next up: Amusement tokenProblem: Rust! The rust on the surface felt hard and set-in. Method: 30-second rub on both sides with microfiber towel + Verdi-Care, no rinse Result: Most of the surface rust was removed (!) except for the lower left area. Much of the original surface is now showing. Coin #3:This is one of those "yikes!" coins. Same method as before. It did remove a bunch of the verdigris, but couldn't help the rest. Coin #4:Problem: Slight verdigris, small spots Method: Same as above Result: Not as much as I thought it would have, especially on the reverse. These next two I worked on for 2-3 minutes each. The verdigris acted like it had been liquefied - it was bright green on the towel once I started on them. I kept moving to a new spot with fresh Verdi-Care when the green covered the current spot on the towel. When I stopped, there was no more green coming off. I'm going take a toothpick to them next, but here's shots after just the towel:
