i was at a coinshop/jewelry store the other day and I noticed he had a smaller selection of coins. there was mostly jewelry at his shop and only the front counter devoted to coins. he had a small basket of peace and Morgan dollars for $18 a piece. I did not catch any dates. but I am wondering if this would be a good deal or not to buy a few..

That wouldn't be a bad price to hold for bullion and you may find a nice one in there. It would certainly be worth looking through. If their specialty is jewelry, who knows?

I would buy them all day long at that price, if they are AU or better. Check the prices in Red Book or on numismedia and go back to see if there may be some real bargains in there.

Go for it. You don't find Morgans for that price in many places. If for nothing more, like already stated, you can hold them for bullion.

The guy's asking $5 over melt at today's spot price. Do you see any there that look like they might be worth greater than or equal to $5 to you?

I would say cherrypick through them for VAM's...it can pay off handsomely. :P

The dealer here at home has been selling decent Morgans and Peace dollars for $15 ea, regardless of spot, for the last 3 years. Every time I'm in there I buy a couple. He has bags of Walkers @ 13 X face, he's usually too busy to go thru 'em, my buddy dug out a really nice 1917 D Walker.
