It's such a long url, I won't try and post it here, but the US Mint released their Uncirculated Mint Set online today. Who's going to buy? I was told once that unless there is a key coin or a different finish, it's not worth buying more than one of. Agree? Edited by johnstac 07/15/2010 2:48 pm

It's gone up $4 from 2009 with less coins. I usually buy to update my albums and keep one or two. I'm planning on doing the same this year.

I've bought multiple mint sets in the past from the Mint. I'm going to protest the price hike coupled with fewer coins and not buy from the US mint. I'll buy what I need in the secondary market.

I would only say that this Satin Set " will" contain the first "Shield Cent" (after the design change).....so this can be looked at as a "first year coin" in the new series.....this might warrant some attention. And this Satin Set will contain the "Lincoln Dollar"......which we all know is one of the most popular Presidents. So they'll be some attention in "buyers" out there. Only a very modest price hike will be likely to happen in my opinion, if it happens at all, for the "Set". The secondary market could indeed be cheaper.....it also might not be. Regardless, I'll order from the Mint. And I'll probably get two. One for taking out the single coins for my Dansco's.....and the other just to keep intact.

with this new news I think I have just decided to not buy anything from the mint anymore unless its a commemorative or they start releasing the proof eagles again. these price jumps are ridiculous. next year the set will be 35.

As RPT said, the set went up $4 with less coins, and I've never thought there was much difference on the surface between a new circulating business strike and the "Satin" finish the mint claims to be unique and special. The quality of the finish is not at all like the unc commemoratives of the last five years, which has been described as satin also, but is really a matte finish like the 90% 98-S Kennedy half. It occurred to me that the mint could make a 90% silver set with the matte finish of the dime, the 5 quarters and the half, creating yet another collectible variety for the ATB Quarters. As usual, I'll order a couple of sets, probably more than usual, for the ATB Quarters, particularly, because I am a sucker for the annual sets from the mint, however careless they are produced.

I will buy a satin finish pair of cents and nickels on the secondary market. I need the satin cents to add to my type set and of course the nickels for my regular set. I'll only spend 5 to 7 bucks that way.

I'm going to buy a 2010 mint set, and a proof set when it comes out. Not going to buy from the mint. Probably from Coast to Coast coin company. I like Coast to Coast. Have bought from them for years. One set of each is all I am interested in.

I'll buy my normal two sets ... one to keep intact and one to cannibalize ... somewhat expensive, but I'm on automatic subscription and will hang in there

These have excellent growth potential. I get 20 every year and I might double that this year. In 5 years these will double in value.

Quote: In 5 years these will double in value. Thats a strong statement. if you will notice almost all sets produced from the mint in the last 10 years have almost dropped in half since there release. even the infamous 99 and 2001 sets are comming back down. Most people will tell you buying from the mint is not a good investment in general

Well I usually also get three or four sets but it seems a bit pricey this year. BUT need one for all the albums and one to keep but most likely will get three but do not like the price.

I've never been convinced that the satin finish is worthwhile, I'd like to see a full Business Strike set, not just the ATB Quarters.
