I think I get why people are interested in the rolls, but I do not understand buying the bags. I can see people searching for the very high MS coins in them, or just holding on to the rolls as a collection item.
The mint also sells 25 dollars worth of quarters in bags for 35 dollars. Would the quarters not be low MS due to the amount of bag-marks acquired during the minting and transporting, plust what ever you do with them after your get them?
I am sure there are other reasons why people would pay more than face value for new coins, please educate me!

I can only answer for myself, and only regarding the new Parks quarters, as they are the only ones I have ever bought in bags. I am buying the $25 bags (for $35) just to get them, as banks can't order these and the rolls are even more outrageous in price. I set two rolls worth aside in tubes for now and use four sets for myself and two nephews, two sets go to other CCF friends, one set to a regular customer, one to my Mom, etc, using up the loose half roll. I could buy the rolls instead, but as stated, the bags are a cheaper per coin alternative. Don't particularly care on grade, to me MS is MS.

One reason people buy bags is they get more coins than the rolls.

i used to buy the bags. I thought one day they may be worth a little more money than what I paid but there selling around 25 bucks on the bay. or at least they were. I really cant justify buying much of anything from the mint anymore.

The mint charging a premium on the current year coins, in either bags or rolls, just seems wrong to me too. I try to steer clear of US Mint purchases with the exception of the Direct Ship Dollar program. At face value delivered, it's a good way to get rolls & search for errors. I've found quite a few different Dollar errors this way.

It's not easy getting them from a bank. So if you buy them from a coin dealer, on ebay, or even here you're paying a premium plus shipping.

I've found a variety of different errors, mostly dealing w/ the edge lettering - unfortunately I haven't found any missing edge lettering, but I've found messed up (bad spacing, missing random letters, bunched up letters, extra stars) edge lettering on just about every different President and Native American dollar type. Sometimes there's a dry spell, but more often than not, I find at least one in each $500 shipment (I always order 2 of the $250 boxes for each president). I also found one 10% clipped planchet and one rotated die error.

The banks can get these as I have been getting them from my bank just got 10 rolls of Yellowstone and Hot Springs last month. I could keep going back and get all I want I guess I got six extra rolls of Yellowstone no one wanted them so gave them all to the one person that replied. Now what is crazy my bank stopped getting the State Quarters and said they would not get anymore must have had allot of requests for the national park quarters as they are getting these for how long who knows.

I used to get a P and a D of everything from the mint because my CU does not get new coins. They recycle what they take in from members. I see some good rolls in respect to older coins. I've since reduced my mint ordering to penny rolls only. Local banks I deal with are hit and miss. At least the mint guarantees me receiving what I want. The cost of mint rolls are ridiculous but, as I said, I get what I want.

I have been collecting the "bags" of Territories and the America the Beautiful Quarters, WHY, because this is a good place for the "out of the ordinary errors to be found", many types of coins that do not fit in a coin roll are found this way. Odd shaped double struck coins, multiple struck coins, etc. I hope to check these all out some day, as with the Presidential dollar rolls I have also collected from day one, you never know! Good luck, Mike...

a 25 dollar bag should be 25 dollars...why would you pay 35?

Quote: The banks can get these as I have been getting them from my bank just got 10 rolls of Yellowstone and Hot Springs last month. No one said the banks CAN'T get them or WON'T get them, the thing is they can't specifically order them like they could the State Quarters. Instead whether or not they get them when they order quarters is the luck of the draw. If the Fed has old coins on hand that's what they get. If they don't then they get the new coins. Your bank has been lucky. What would you do if they AREN'T lucky of the next four or five issues? Quote: a 25 dollar bag should be 25 dollars...why would you pay 35? The Mint is set up for shipping out coins in multi ton lots. In order to get you those $25 bags they have to go through extra handling, storage, marketing etc. You pay for that extra trouble . if you want them for $25 that's fine. Keep checking at the bank. Of course you may not get them either.

The bags of nickles were not too bad; only 10 bucks over face + shipping. Only problem is that I now have all those bags of ugly-upped Jefferson nickles (just like the Presidential dollar). Another example of CCAC, CFA, and DOT's finest releases.

They are offering bags of nickels now? That's the first I've heard of those. I haven't known them to sell nickels since 2006 when the Westward Journey series ended.
