guitarmonkee, I have to ask. why the slant criticism?

I get that you feel this person may be trolling, and he very well may be. But answer me this. How would you feel if your introduction here was met with harsh criticism and implications of falsification. I'm sure you would not appreciate it.

I'm not calling you out and do not wish to start a fight. Mods, if I'm out of line please edit/reword/delete my post.

Just trying to make a point I guess. Don't assume just because the of the odds, that hes lying.

I completely agree. If you think the OP is a troll, then don't comment. It's as simple as that.

One thing that's for sure.

I would just love to find a 1909 S VDB.
or maybe a 1955 Doubled Die Lincoln wheatie.
Hey, I'm not picky. Either one would be fine with me.
Here .... here's some pics.

Adding to Conder's comment about coin drops, that was my first thought when I read this post. Wasn't there a publicized "coin drop" in New York city or some major east coast city where they did put an "S-VDB" into circulation. I don't remember ever reading any feedback about it being found - perhaps I missed the news coverage of the find. But, if it hasn't been found, maybe ..................

Another possibility is someone who found the real deal, really did submit it, and will never post again. Someone who is new to a forum is going to be less likely to follow up than someone who has been on for a while and made connections.

Scott Travers did a big release in 2006 with a 1909-S VDB, 1914-D, and a 1908-S IHC. I am sure others have done similar drops as well.

While I admire what Scott did, it was really a bad idea. Those coins were mostly likely lost to attrition forever. They are probably in the bottom of a sewer pipe by now. He would have done greater good by giving them to a young collector directly.

Scott should have spent 2,000 common date 1940's-50's Wheat Cents instead.

They'd be old enough to be collectible (and saved by anyone who noticed
what they are), yet not so rare as to be a tragedy to numismatics if a
few of them got lost or damaged.

He could have caught the interest of several hundred young people,
not just three (at best).

Amem to that brother, amem!

Dumping a 1909-S VDB or 1914-D Lincoln Cent into circulation is nuts. If a person is trying achieve a goal, that is NOT the way to do it.

Hi,

I guess I was trying to post in the wrong place. I was in a hurry when I found out what ANACS had to say. The coin is real, I guess.

I went to my ANACS login and checked the status and they say it is being shipped and it has been graded " scratched 20 details ". I knew about the scratch, but just wanted to know if was real. I am guessing now that it might have been stolen from a collection and removed from a slab (might be how it was scratched, but I am guessing).

Anyhow, a friend of mine (coin dealer) says he could give me $950 (he has seen it). I really don't how I will sell it, but I do need the money, so it has to go. I hate to have to sell a once in a lifetime find, but....

I will post pictures when it comes in the mail. It should be here early next week.
