At a coin show last Sunday a dealer I know showed me a 1909S VDB which he knew I would want. Although I have many in my Albums now, none are like this one in all Red. Was to much money though. At a con show today the same dealer put the same coin out in front of me so I couldn't resist since his price now was reasonable. The coin was graded by ANACS as a MS63/65 and that was the one thing that posselved me since I thought it should be one or the other. Made me wonder about ANACS as a grading service if they can not make up their minds as to MS63, 64, 65? But to me it sure looked fantastic and so for $2,100.00, no taxes, it is now mine. On my way to the garage to break out that coin. I don't collect plastic, just coins.

Can you get a picture before you crack it out? I thought ANACS did away with split grading when they went to hard plastic slabs.

I agree with Bherring, the 63/65 you're referring to is most likely the photo certificate holders they used to use, where they graded the obverse and reverse separately.

Old holder, pretty cool in red. It's probably a 64 coin based on some of those slabs I've seen.
Congrats on your purchase! You got it for just a hair over CDN 63 money, a fair price for a slabbed one. Personally, there's no way I'd crack that coin out. Not sure what you're planning to do with you collection once you pass....but the slab makes it easier for your loved ones.

Actually yes so now I should probably start an 11th set. Many, many duplicates in 2x2's so shouldn't be to much trouble. Quote: Can you get a picture before you crack it out? And don't know about split grading but now in Album #2 as my second best coin in that series. Quote: Congrats on your purchase! No relatives that know nor care about coins. Probably the entire collection will end up in banks counting machine knowing them.

Actually may not be to far fetched. The last time my Son was around I showed him my #1 sets of Lincoln Cents, Buffalo nickels, Mercury dimes and a few others. I tried to express they are worth a lot of money. He said "Whatever" and just walked away. To busy I guess. Quote:

They did. HMMMM. Makes me wonder if that is true, why was this one in a slab? At that coin show I showed it to several other dealers I know and they all just said nice coin.

Not so amazing if you think about how cheap those were when I was a kid. Same with all the 1916D Mercury dimes I have. Got 10 of those for about $1.25 or $1.50 not sure since was a long, long time ago. Actually when I was a kid not to many people collected coins, Back then it was stamps. When I was a kid there wasn't even such a thing as a Roosevelt dime.

Just thought I'd take this photo prior to putting set #1 back in the safe deposit box. Seldom photo coins so a little to much glare. Entire set looks something like this.
