The members of of this stie are very helpful. I started coin rolling from what I learned on this site and still learning. I started by cashing in $80 for various rolls of nickles, dimes and qtrs. I decided to stick to just qtrs to fill holes in my collection. After I read more posts, I learn that boxes of coins can be ordered, Couple question: 1) Is there a set $ amount per coin in each box? 2) Where does the bank order the boxes from? 3) do veteran rollers find more success in the boxes compared to just buying rolls from the branch?
Thanks for the help!

1) 25 cent, 100 nickel, 250 dime, 500 quar-half, 1000 brass buck. 2) other banks 3) no, because having that many together in one place makes them easy for someone else to search first.

I dont quite get the answer to number 3 from the person posting above however searching larger quantities obviously will make your results better coin searching is 100% about luck, you can find a dream box of half dollars like someone on this forum did once where there were like 300 silver pieces or you can get 20 straight boxes with no silver half dollars its all about luck. Slowly work your way up to larger amounts of coin if you want, but dont go too fast in your searches....you might miss a good one

I haven't had good luck finding any of my bank branches to have half dollar rolls. Most I was able to get was 2.50 in halves. So I have put halves on hold for now, I am thinking about getting into nickels. Seems there are many early dates still being found.

I was thinking halves, the most popular search.
It's far more likely you'll find goodies in stuff you pick up a few at a time. Virtually 100% of half boxes come from a centralized collection point that counts, rolls and wraps. Whoever operates that machine can search a bag for silver in a minute or two, so it's real likely he will, leaving clads for searchers.

Fred, I agree you with almost completely on halves, except for the point you make about the coins being searched at a centralized place. Brink's doesn't not pay their people to search for silver coin. When coin is rolled at a branch of a bank, it usually is done by tellers who are in need on work to do, thus they have the time to casually look for silver. Also tellers are usually hand rolling thus seeing and most importantly hearing the coin, whereas Brink's system is all automated counting and rolling. Also I'm not even sure that Brinks employees are allowed to "trade" for any silver coin. I think they keep it pretty locked down. I mean no disrespect to you. Your end point I agree with . I get bags from the coin machines, and I highly recommend it. Bernied, A little info on quarter roll searching... Quarters, more so than any other silver coin, was hoarded after silver was removed from it metal makeup in 1965. As quarters are probably the most circulated coins we have, they were the most common one to be pulled from circulation by people. Also a silver quarter has, in my opinion, the most distinctive sound when compared to it's clad brothers, more so than any other coin, thus making the silver ones much easier to spot. But you can see on this forum, that quarter are probably the least searched coin anymore, just look at the number of responses. One nice thing about quarters is every once in a while you will hit a mother load. I have had it happen twice where I found over $20 of face value silver quarters in a $500 bag. I have personally be finding about 1 silver for every 2-3 bags recently. That has actually increased in the past year or so. It used to be a pretty big gap between silver quarters.

Rewster you are wrong on the Brinks. I have to stop at a Brinks office everyday as part of my route and there are six ladies that work in the office and five of the six addmitted to me that they do keep all silver from the half dollars! Thats why I dont even bother getting boxes of half dollars in my area, because I know there is no silver in them!

Quote: Brink's doesn't not pay their people to search for silver coin. There's a big difference between "doesn't pay" and "doesn't forbid". If a machine operator can catch the silver in a box in a minute or two, it's like bending over and picking up $10 bills--they'd be foolish not to do it unless forbidden.

who cares, search coins and have fun, no one knows the answers to questions and really even if its forbidden, does anyone enforce it? C'mon its dumb to talk about, so just have fun and find cool stuff

Hmm.. that's interesting, because our Brinks guy said their people are not allowed to pull any coin they find other than mutilated or foreign. Guess it must depend on location. He claims the only time boxes of halves go out is for searching and they come back in equal amounts in a week or two, and that's why all the silver is gone. I guess either way it doesn't matter, I never have luck with boxes of halves either. Coin machine bags are the way to go! Anyway googoo is right, this is not a Brinks discussion page or halves discussion page, this is the quarter forum. So as you can see Bernied, there is no best overall method for getting silver. You have try out different things and see what works best for you. Every area is different. Good Luck! $500 bag from Friday, zippo!

My main teller told me the brinks truck delivery driver told her : the people who tranport it have no chance to cherrypick but the people who work at the brinks wrapping facility YES they do pick the silver !
I was searching 7,8 brinks boxes per week but after know it I only do 1 or 2 now !

Is it just the Brinks people who can pick out the silver, or is it any other place that wraps coins?

Anyplace the workers have physical access to the coins, unless there is a company policy against it.

I still recommend to try different strategies and see what works best for you. Some people have very good luck with Brinks boxes. Just read through a few pages of the halves roll searching topic. People like Chuckster do very well with Brinks (etc) boxes. While others are consistently skunked.
Trial and error. If something doesn't work move on to something else.
