I'd like to pick up a couple but it depends on the price and availability. The mint is really limiting the 2010 issue's mintage with the late release and these might get really pricey. :(

I am more interested in the numismatic versions than the BU versions, and given the price I think dealers will try to charge for the BU versions, I am going to opt for the numismatic ones. I would like to see the difference between them first.

The Dec 6 date is for the bullion version of the coins. The mint is also minting an uncirculated version (satin finish) that will be sold as a numismatic product directly to the public sometime after the first of the year. I expect that the mint will index the price of the collector version to silver spot like they currently do for gold and platinum. at five ounces and with silver prices changing so much they pretty much have to. That being said, we should expect to see margins similar to what the mint uses on other uncirculated precious coins. This should actually allow for lower prices than what we are used to paying for silver products because the pricing does not have to guess at a years time, it can change weekly with the spot, always providing just enough profit to meet requirements.

Those are lower mintages than the lincoln coin & Chronicles set at 50,000 and they sold out in a little more than a day I think the real challenge will be in finding an authorized dealer that has them in stock before they sell out

Dont you think ?

These are the authorized purchasers:

A-Mark Precious Metals of Santa Monica, Calif. It is authorized to purchase gold, silver and platinum.
• American Precious Metals Exchange, Inc., of Oklahoma City, Okla. Silver Eagles only.
• Coins ‘N' Things, Inc., of Bridgewater, Mass. Gold, silver and platinum.
• Dillon Gage Inc. of Dallas, Texas. Silver only.
• Fidelitrade, Inc. of Wilmington, Del. Silver only.
• Jack Hunt Coin Broker, Inc., of Kenmore, N.Y. Silver only.
• MTB of New York. Gold, silver and platinum.
• Prudential Securities, Inc., of New York. Gold, silver and platinum.
• Scotia Mocatta of New York. Gold silver and platinum.
• The Gold Center of Springfield, Ill., Silver only.

Based on my understanding of the system, all other bullion retailers are buying from the primary distributors listed above- not directly from the US Mint.

Actually heard it yesterday morning about 10AM.

And I will bet that the Mint's price for the silver collectors version will be considerably higher than the bullion version. And if you want a full set now it's going to take 112 coins (assuming they don't add proofs) weigh 560 oz, and cost close to $20,000. (Assuming silver stays about where it is.) I'm happy to hear about them becoming available, but I'm not pleased with the lowered mintage and the "collector" version.

With such a low mintage how are the little people like me going to get a set from the bullion people?

Some of us "little people" do not have $20,000.00 to part with for a full set of these anyway !! And we're just going to get one or two....and even THAT is just a "maybe" !!...

Just got off the phone with APMEX and they said, "call us back on the seventh and we will tell you what the price is, how many we'll let you buy, and when you will get them." This looks like a crazy ride coming up!

eaglefoot I meant a set of the first five. I dont have 20 k either. The $750+ for the set of five is going to be a real stretch!

The Mint says they'll be selling them to the authorized dealers at spot + $9.95 per coin.

I just got shut down by every other dealer listed above. So much for getting these things. By the time I get a chance at one of them I bet that $9 premium will be 10x higher. Cant wait to see the 'pre-sales' pop up on ebay soon. It'll be nuts!

APMEX is listing the set of 5 for $1,400

So, even if silver is $30/oz - they're buying that coin for $160 and selling it for $280. That's one heckuva markup.
