Does anyone have a more efficient cheap way to sort through cents to get copper away from zinc. It really is a pain to go through boxes and I dont have that much time lately and I have 8 boxes that I havnt went through yet. With that being said, does anyone know of a cheap sorter that can go through thousands of cents without a problem and is efficient.

thanks,
bryan

What do you consider cheap? I think there is a machine that runs around $100 that should do what youre hoping to do. Personally, I prefer to handsort and look for varieties so the search is half the fun for me.

for me I would rather just look through the copper cents then both the copper and the zincs plus time wise is more of an issue for me. I think you would have better luck finding anything if they were all sorted like that as you can go through more boxes faster and return the zinc ones. If you got a link that would be great

A quick CCF search of "copper coin sorter" gave me this link. Hope it helps.

I'm in agreement with CoinHunter53562 though. I'd much rather hand search my Lincolns. Greysheet prices on some the the 80's era zinc cents gave me yet another reason to roll hunt!

Question about the greysheet lincoln pricing you mentioned. Do you get the printed copy or the online copy? I cannot find prices on any Lincolns newer than 1949. Just wondered where section you are reading from. Thanks.

The only ones that are an issue is 1982. If it's older - it's copper. If it's newer - it's zinc. Can't get any quicker than that.

I just throw the 82's on a scale. Although, after a while, you can tell 95% of them just by looking at them.
Of course, I throw the '83's on there, too. I would hate to throw away a mega-rare '83 copper!

Although it is not really cheap, I bought a Ryedale that sorts them for me....very accurate. It kinda work works like a metal detector where it rejects zinc and accepts copper. I just pour them into a hopper and watch it sort...very quick also.

The online copy. The July 2010 monthly supplement shows that BU rolls of 1986D Zincolns are $25 bid, and $27 ask.

I just found that not 5 minutes ago. Just reading these prices has renewed my desire to search more of these lincoln boxes sitting here. I recently bought a box that holds lincoln tubes standing on end. This might be an easier way to sort these out. I would have never thought the 80's lincolns were any good but now 83-88 is looking very good. Certainly better than the occasional wheat I come across.

Speaking of greysheet...never seen one. Doesn't it come in a PDF? Wonder if someone could attach the latest copy?

johnstac, please do not blame me for your newfound interest. Personally, I blame BadThad...but I know that he isn't the only culprit. There's many others here at CCF that can share in the blame.

If I blame anyone though, I have to blame myself first.

I joined here simply searching for wheats. Since I've been here, I've learned that there's a lot more.

I guess it is actually possible to teach an old dog a few new tricks eh?

Rest in Peace

Tells silver from clad or copper cents from zinc.

The one scott posted I like, the other one I seen before but your still bascially putting them in a few at a time. Quicker finds IMO as you go through more cents in less time then you can actually look through the ones your interested in
