The gold & Silver (Color) coins with an Eagle on the Reverse, Sometimes on the obverse it'll say NO CASH VALUE. We call those love tokens. You can get those If your visiting someone who is locked up. Or being detained, Your not allowed to bring Money inside the visiting area. So if you want something from the snack machine or soda machine you have to change out what you expect to spend prior to visitation. To prevent problems that might arise from inmates getting cash. Like escape, drugs, Cigs, Ect... The inmates don't have the most of the items in the machines so it kinda ala cart for them. I guess the name love token is cause you pretty much have to love someone to go through the straining process before visitation. I had a good friend whos more of a brother that I visited for 8 years. So a lot of those tokens are through out my house. Still to this day I get fooled by that beautiful eagle on the back. Mistaken it for an earlier series. Hope this helped some of you out with what those were......(Jarwulf)
I got a 1942 or 47 EF Mercury dime from a Self Check Out Machine here at our local Stop N Shop.(Grocery Store) When I pulled my change out, I couldn't believe it. I would of bought something else and tried my luck again but their were people waiting.

The last year for Mercury dimes was 1945; if the dime was from 1947, it'd be a Roosevelt.

@amassey: That's very interesting. How come they don't show that aspect in movies? Can you get tokens from different prisons, like start a collection of tokens from famous American prisons?

Interesting amassey, thanks! I just assumed the token was from some gameroom in a mall somewhere...

What a neat idea! I always dismissed Coinstar as worthless because it cost money to cash in coins. Now I will be looking out for them!

As I was dumping coins at bank today, I noticed someone forgot to check the reject bin again!

Got me 2 regular State Quarters, a 1974 Canadian dime, a 1983 Italian 50 Lire, and a penny-sized token that reads: "CHARTER MEMBER PGA Tour Partners Club"

I was just looking for this thread the other day. Glad it got bumped. I found another 1964D dime in the reject bin at my dump bank ... that's my 6th dump bank dime since I started roll hunting in 2009.

From a Coinstar's reject tray, I found a 1939 Lincoln. Also, from my dump bank's coin counter, I found a '74 Canadian 25 cents in the reject area.

A few weeks ago, I found a silver dime in the reject bin. The next day, I saw a guy dumping a coffee can full of coins into the same Coinstar. It rejected about 30 dimes, and I thought a couple may have been silver. I gave him some money for them, and he walked off. Once I got home, I counted them. 28 silver dimes! I felt bad...I didn't mean to rip the guy off. Of course, he would have just spent them for face value.

I found a 43 LWC that was clinging on to the magnet at the opening of the coin sorter at my Credit Union.

Silver Roosevelt, it was a 1942 Merc, As soon as I saw that winged head I almost crapped, don't know what I was thinking with the 47 LOL. My wife asked "What did you do" when I got back into the car, cause I was smiling ear to ear.
As for the love tokens, Libertad thats a great idea to tie in a series that came from the same state. Each prison doesn't use the same token. Some do, I've seen 3 different designs out of the four prison's I've visited. I'm going to find some and post them. Amid I've seen the eagle on a few gamer tokens, so it just as well could be... A gamer token. Let me go see if I can find a few love tokens. I moved a couple months ago, so things are still in boxes. But I've got a good idea where some are,,,,
