The past few weeks just for giggles I have checked the coinstar reject bin at my local grocery store when I do the weekly shopping and it has always been empty and I feel a little silly for looking. But this morning I went to a grocery store that I normally do not shop often at, bought a cake for my son's birthday today, and started heading out the door with it. Then I thought I wonder where the coinstar machine is here and found it in a little nook at the front of the registers, checked the reject bin and there was about 3-4 dollars in change in it. Maybe 50 cents in Canadian but the rest was normal US pennies, quarters, dimes and nickels. The only coin that wasn't a recent date was a 1947S Jefferson nickel. But still it was a pretty profitable check.

You realize people are putting razor blades and used needles in those reject slots, don't you?

And for the record, that's an urban legend that's been around since the days of pay phones.

Found this guy in the reject bin of a Coinstar near my home, around 3 years ago. One of my best finds ever and the only silver quarter I've ever found in the wild.

I loves my Green Machines! Well, I found an AU 1945 Canadian nickel (has morse code message on the back and is chromed steel! How cool is that!)...also a couple of pre-64 silver dimes...also a sheckel (aluminum?)...and an old French coin from the 40's....aluminum also...I ALWAYS check every green machine I see, in poor and rich villages, cities and towns...and I ASK tellers for half-dollars in change or oddball coins they may have...end of shift change is good for that...I had 3 clerks talking about coins at my local Tim Hortons today, and got 2 wheat cents...THEY searched for them! If you don't ask, you don't receive!

I keep finding old worn wheat cents in the reject slot of my bank's coin counter. Several weeks ago I found a 1918, then a week later another 1918, and just yesterday a 1930. I'm starting to think someone might be doing this on purpose.
