I've got to start checking these things...I have a few times, but have never found a dang thing..usually I go there to dump a months worth of accumulated pocket change. Stuff used to sit around for eons until coinstar machines came around because I hated rolling it (still do). Earl

Today at a CoinStar at Safeway, I found a 2010 dime, 1997 penny and............ a very smooth 1912 Wheat cent and two corroded Mercury dimes! The dimes are from 1935 and 1944 if I read the dates right.

Thanks, Angel. I do have a question: Does cleaning a coin that has no numismatic value hurt it, or does it make no difference? I ask this because most silver coins us coin hunters find in circulation are only worth junk silver, so they will only go up or down in value based on the price of silver?

You're welcome. I would think currently only junk value but the future is unknown. I have read how many of the high mintage dates some of those coins have been in the big melts no way of knowing how many remain. That can make higher orig mint dates more valuable (since truly less are out there!) You just never know! Just a thought

Never found a single coin in a coinstar... until tonight. Had to make a late night milk run and spotted a coin in the reject slot. As I got closer I could tell it was a shiny new Canadian dime but thankfully there was a 52d Rosie underneath it! It pays to keep looking I suppose.

You gotta remember, any place busy enough to have a Coinstar has a few employees who can check it as they walk by.

I just saw that 1911 Sovereign find. Holy cow, how has anyone not commented on that one? I would have a #2 accident if I saw that one shining at me in the "reject" tray!

Found a '79 SBA dollar in the reject tray of the coin counting machine this afternoon at my bank when I was dumping nickels. Also eyeballed a '53d Roosie at Subway in their change machine thingy.

@ GF above: That 1911 Sovereign was my find last fall. I didn't believe it was real until I had it checked out by a jeweler. I got excited, because the rim dings didn't show any signs of worn off plating, thus leading me to believe (correctly) that it was real. Sadly, I no longer have it, as I needed $ desperately at the time and was forced to sell it just a few days after finding it. Odds are that is the ONLY gold coin I will ever find in my lifetime. Still kicking myself for not buying a lottery ticket that day....Hey, if you beat THOSE odds...

I will never complain about going to the grocery store again! Found this in the reject bin and still can't believe it! Of course its not in great shape but for a free coin its the coolest thing I have ever found. A little research shows that 1853 was the highest mintage of the series so I guess as far as seated liberties go it is pretty common.

Certainly not the oldest, but the neatest. I watched the lady scoop out the rejects, but this was hidden in a corner. Really too small to grasp.
