My local CoinStar has been on a roll. I visit the grocery a couple times a week, maybe 3 times occasionally. The last 3 times I was there I found something, two days ago it was just 2 dimes and a penny, a couple days earlier it was a penny and a dime stuck together with crud along with a few other dinged up dimes and pennies. Last week was my big find I posted about earlier.
My change jar is getting pretty full and I will probably dump it at Coinstar after the holidays. I always use it for iTunes gift cards that we use to buy movies etc. with so I don't lose out on the fees. This also makes it more agreeable to the wife/CFO to allow me to buy boxes of pennies or nickles, if our iTunes balance is low we buy boxes, search them and use the chaff as refill cash for the account.
Occasionally when I dump coins I get stuff in the return bin that I did not put in there. I have found a couple silver dimes, Canadian coins or foreign change that I KNOW was not in my dump.
One other thing was that years ago, Coinstar used to identify the different types of penny composition, while I forget the exact nomenclature it was something like "Pennies: Newer (1982+)" and "Pennies: Older". They stopped doing that some time ago, at least at the machines I have used. You gotta wonder if they are still separating the copper from zinc and for what reasons.
