I haven't found anything but have heard of some people finding silver coins in coinstars!

I am lazy. For cheap oddball coins. I just go the the dealer's junk boxes. Some of the most curious coins I have found come from this source. Sometimes, I just pick the most unidentifiable coins, just for the challenge.

With this strategy, the find rate for valuable numismatic items is surprisingly high, and you get the fun of trying to identify some or all aspects of them. Some of the best value for money items I have came this way. Sometimes years can pass before a full attribution can be achieved.

The reason you can get away with it is that the dealers haven't the time to investigate all of what first appear as low value coins. It is a bit raking over old mullock heaps at old mining sites. I have done this with sapphire and opal mullock heaps.
Rest in Peace

It costs at least 50¢ a mile to run a car, not counting time. To make anything, you'd have to hit an occasional tenth oz AGE. Picking up aluminum cans would be more profitable.

Of course, I'm gonna check any time I pass one. I'm up around 35¢ so far.

It is worth looking. Last year I found over $3.00 in face 90%. None so far this year but I am up over $5.00 in Canadian coins. And seven or eight various Euros€. Seems I'm at the store almost everyday so why not look?

I found a nice 1956-D wheatie in VF/EF. The date was obscured with some gunk so I had to do some light fingernail conservation to reveal it :)

From the reject of a coin counting machine at a bank, I found a '68 Lincoln, a '64 Jefferson, and a 1979 Canadian 5¢.

Three Canadian dimes, a LMC, a clad Rosie, 54S & 59D Silver Rosies, and some Eagle Token from the tray today. Beats my prior best score of a Canadian quarter by a wide margin!
