lol, Don't feel stupid, heck we have all made those same type of mistakes. If you would like I can give you pictures of the VAM-80 Obverse and the 85 Obverse if it will help you in your research. The only thing I noticed is the 85 Obverse is lacking some of the cracks the 80 has around the stars and tip of the neck

Thanks Bryan, but I am not doing any research.... I am far too scatter brained for that.... I just thought that there might be some little telltale signs in the devices of shared dies that could be used as smoking guns (rather than speculation points) as to definitive die states.
As far as the 85, I think that the crack that you mention on the 80 should be supportive evidence (along with field condition relationships), of actual die state of both coins.

even LVA said the 85 came before the 80, and 22. VW says the 86 was before them as well but not sure if it was before the 85 or after. I am not even sure it was before the 80 and 22 because the only two that have been found are so worn and I have never seen one in hand

I have had (but no more) a couple of 22 in MS, but neither was PL.... As far as I am aware of, 22 is unknown in PL, and is generally thought to have been struck after the 80.... obverse cracks are extensive, and all examples are clashed.

yeah the 22 is known to be after the 80, I was just wondering where the 86 falls in

Isn't that information normally divulged when designation is bestowed? I imagine that LVA has slipped it in after the 85, (and my guess would be) just before the 80, and definitely before the 22..... (I'll bet that someone knows the official word by now). I hope that you can obtain a nice high grade example soon so you can make the determination for yourself...

Uh oh.... did I say something bad?
This is a constant fear of mine Gene.... especially lately.... I have noticed that when typing hurriedly, for some reason I am not hitting the 'o' key hard enough, so you know what happens when I type something like 'reed count'.... this has happened to me several times lately.... I have tried to exercise conscientious quality control over myself, but it remains a scary possibility that I will miss something.

IMHO its something new, WHY. as we seldom ask.. but accept. the REV is much like the 23 series.... but it is not...AND that does not mean that this 23 series is an accepted die state progression...thats just the way they name things....in fact many such A1, A2, A3 NOMENCLATURE only is as its found...not as its pieces are figured out like a puzzle....ONE must keep up to date to know the difference...These die cracks resemble....but not are exact.. as of the 23 series.
